9 questions for Daniela Fischer

As a secretary in the front office, organisational talent Daniela Fischer has been the first point of contact for all external visitors at eepos for six years now - and also always has an open ear for the concerns and needs of all employees internally. Her area of responsibility is wide-ranging and no two days are ever the same. It is precisely this variety that particularly appeals to Daniela Fischer. On the occasion of her 6th anniversary on 1.8.2021, we asked her nine questions.

What do you actually do in your profession?
  • Dani

I'm at the front office, which means I'm usually the first person the guests see. I'm responsible for catering, I organise events such as company and Christmas parties, I take care of the mail and the telephone. So it's a very extensive job that you can't describe in two sentences.

What do you enjoy so much about it?
  • Dani

The variety. I'm totally happy that I'm not tied to the PC for eight hours, but that there are always some ad hoc tasks: a guest you didn't know about, he needs coffee and he's hungry and you have to organise everything quickly... lots of interesting calls where I always realise that I didn't even know some of our many products. It's always totally exciting. And I also think the work in the team is great, we complement each other very well, get along very well and always help each other.

Did you work somewhere else before?
  • Dani

I have actually worked elsewhere before, but I hardly ever lasted longer than two years in a job. That usually had a lot to do with the working atmosphere and maybe I just hadn't arrived yet.

What makes the working atmosphere at eepos special?
  • Dani

We all meet each other as equals. Of course we have structures that have to be adhered to, but we always have the opportunity to talk about problems with our team leaders, we look for solutions together, it's totally familiar and we can be honest with each other. There is no constant pressure to perform, but what counts is what makes you as a person. Everyone has things that they are particularly good at and that is valued and encouraged here at eepos. I think that's great and also immensely important.

    How did you find eepos?
  • Dani

Shortly before a job was advertised here, I had changed my job and the working conditions had changed a lot. Somehow I wasn't happy and was pleased when my husband, who also works at eepos, said: "They are looking for a receptionist at eepos, maybe you should apply.
  • The cool thing about it was that it was really serendipitous, the position of receptionist didn't exist at eepos until the move to a bigger building. But then there was this room where the reception is typically located. They thought, if we have this room, we also need a receptionist.

Well, to be honest, I'm a career changer, I hadn't had anything to do with secretarial and office work before and I didn't think I had much of a chance. But after a successful trial day, I got an acceptance letter.

What is your favourite free time activity?
  • Dani

Crafting! In all the facets that the crafting life has to offer. With paper, with beads, with clay, with everything... I also like going for walks and listening to music. And the usual stuff, spending time with family and friends.

What challenges you in your everyday work?
  • Dani

Always thinking of everything. There are days when there is a lot going on, a lot of phone calls, a lot of guests and of course I want to do justice to all my colleagues who have all kinds of concerns.

I also found last year a challenge, as COVID-19 meant that many had to go to the home office. It was difficult to maintain contact with everyone and to bring everyone along with us in what is happening here. What communication channel do I use to do that? What are my colleagues interested in? That was not so easy.

How many more anniversaries do you think you will celebrate at eepos?
  • Dani

Well, I'm retiring at 67, which means ... you celebrate about every fifth ... about five, five more anniversaries! But then that's it, I want to devote myself entirely to handicrafts😊.

If you had only one word to describe eepos, what would it be?
  • Dani

Team. That describes eepos best for me.
